The Indonesian Trade Minister announced today a significant overhaul of trade regulations aimed at lifting restrictions on the import of various goods, particularly industrial raw materials.
Last year, Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, implemented stringent regulations that subjected over 3,000 imported products to heightened inspections, spanning from food ingredients to electronics and chemicals.
However, these measures were met with criticism from business groups, who argued that they impeded access to crucial raw materials necessary for domestic industries.
Under the revised regulations, there will be enhanced supervision of imported goods within the customs area rather than solely post-border supervision.
Although the details of the updated regulations have not been disclosed to the public, they are said to take immediate effect.
