According to a recent report by research firm Counterpoint Research, Apple witnessed a significant decline in iPhone sales in China, plummeting by 19.1% in the first quarter of 2024. Conversely, its primary Chinese competitor, Huawei, experienced a remarkable surge of 69.1% during the same period, posing a potential threat to Apple’s market share in the largest premium smartphone market globally.
The report indicates that Apple’s share of the Chinese smartphone market dipped to 15.7% in Q1/24, down from 19.7% in the corresponding period of 2023. In contrast, Huawei’s market share saw a substantial increase, rising to 15.5% from 9.3% year-on-year.
These contrasting performances underscore the intensifying competition within the Chinese smartphone market, highlighting the challenges faced by Apple in maintaining its market dominance amidst Huawei’s resurgence.
