US Jobless Claims Rise Higher Than Expected Last Week

The US Labor Department has released data indicating that initial jobless claims increased by 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 242,000 last week, surpassing analysts’ expectations of 240,000.

Despite the rise in new claims, the Labor Department also reported that the number of Americans still claiming unemployment benefits decreased by 38,000 to 1.805 million.
