German consumer climate to improve in January

According to the market research institute GfK, consumer climate in Germany is set to rise into next year after the government’s measures to ease the problem of skyrocketing energy prices began to bear fruit.

The consumer climate index rose to -37.8 in January from -40.1 in December, better than analysts’ expectations of -38.0. Despite a slight increase, the consumer climate index remained low. Consumer climate reached -42.8 in October, its lowest level in more than a decade.
