China’s March Electricity Consumption Surges by 7.4% Year-on-Year

China’s National Energy Administration has unveiled staggering statistics revealing a significant surge in electricity consumption during the month of March. According to the latest data, China’s electricity consumption soared to 794 billion kilowatt hours, marking an impressive 7.4% increase compared to the previous year.

Breaking down the consumption trends across different sectors, the report indicates notable growth across primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. Electricity consumption in the primary industry surged by 7%, while the secondary industry witnessed a commendable 4.9% increase year-on-year. Most notably, the tertiary industry experienced a robust surge, with electricity consumption skyrocketing by 11.6% compared to the same period last year.

Moreover, the data also sheds light on remarkable trends in residents’ electricity consumption, which witnessed an astounding 158% surge year-on-year, indicative of increased energy usage among households.

Expanding the scope to the broader picture of the first quarter of 2024, China’s electricity consumption reached an impressive nearly 2.34 trillion kilowatt hours, registering a substantial 9.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
