A report from Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency has revealed that the United States has imported a record-breaking $944 million worth of fertilizer from Russia between January and July of 2023.
The data underscores a 5% increase in the value of Russian fertilizer exports to the US during this seven-month period compared to the previous year, which had reached $900 million—marking the highest level at that time.
July, in particular, witnessed a significant surge in US imports of Russian fertilizer, tripling in volume compared to the preceding month. This import level had not been seen since August 2021.
According to Xinhua news agency, Russia secured its position as the second-largest fertilizer supplier to the United States during the first seven months of 2023, trailing only behind Canada in terms of exports.
This substantial increase in fertilizer imports highlights the significance of international trade relationships in ensuring the steady supply of essential agricultural inputs. As the agricultural sector continues to play a crucial role in global food production, maintaining reliable trade partnerships becomes increasingly vital for food security and economic stability.
