South Korea Witnesses a 9.1% Surge in Online Shopping Volume for July Driven by Strong Demand

South Korea’s online shopping sector continues to experience robust growth, with July proving to be a particularly fruitful month. The South Korean Bureau of Statistics has reported that online shopping in the country during July reached an impressive 18.9 trillion won (equivalent to approximately US$14.3 billion), marking a substantial 9.1% increase compared to the same period last year. This remarkable surge can be attributed to a surge in demand for various online services, including travel and food, as well as the popularity of e-coupons.

Online travel and transportation services experienced a notable uptick, witnessing a 31.4% increase in transactions compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, online e-coupon services thrived, growing by 28.1%, particularly driven by the trend of gifting items like coffee and cakes via e-coupons.

In the realm of food and beverages, online shopping witnessed a substantial growth of 15.7%, underscoring the evolving preferences of consumers who are increasingly turning to digital platforms for their culinary needs. Demand for food delivery services also registered a steady uptick, rising by 2.4%.

The convenience of smartphone shopping continued to draw consumers, with a 6.9% year-on-year increase in transactions, amounting to 14.08 trillion won (approximately $10.7 billion) in July.

This surge in online shopping reflects the evolving consumer landscape, with more individuals opting for the ease and convenience of digital platforms to meet their shopping and service needs. As e-commerce continues to grow, businesses are adapting to meet the demands of online shoppers, setting the stage for further expansion in South Korea’s digital marketplace.

This trend also highlights the importance of digital marketing and e-commerce strategies for businesses aiming to tap into South Korea’s burgeoning online shopping market. As consumer preferences evolve, companies that can provide seamless and user-friendly online shopping experiences are likely to thrive in this dynamic landscape.
