US urges China to halt Iranian oil imports

The United States has ramped up pressure on China to discontinue importing oil from Iran, as the Biden administration aims to impose sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program. According to reports, China is a major illegal export destination for Iran and the US is currently in talks with Beijing to impose a ban on Iranian oil imports.

The US reimposed sanctions on Iran and banned oil exports in 2018 after Iran withdrew from a deal designed to limit its nuclear program. In response, Iran increased uranium enrichment activities and limited international inspections.

Despite these sanctions, Iranian crude shipments have surged in recent months, with a significant portion of the oil being shipped to China, the world’s largest importer. The US is now urging China to stop importing Iranian oil in order to enforce the sanctions.
