Thai Car Exports in 2022 Surpass Target of 1 Million Units After Chip Problem is Resolved

A spokesman for the automotive industry, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), reported that car exports in 2022 exceeded the target of 1 million units, returning to pre-COVID-19 levels. This success is due to the fact that a shortage of chips has been solved, but there are still challenges in the export sector.

In December 2022, exports totaled 111,605 units, an increase of 10.17% from the same month the previous year. As a result, finished car exports for the year 2022 amounted to 1,000,256 units, an increase of 4.28% from the previous year.

Looking ahead to 2023, it is expected that there will be a production capacity of 1.95 million cars, an increase of 3.53% from the previous year. Of this, 1.05 million cars will be produced for export, and 900,000 cars will be for domestic production.
