U.S. retail sales rose in October

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, retail sales rose 1.3% in October after leveling off in September.

Retail sales were boosted by rising car sales, and the rebound in gasoline prices boosted sales at gas stations.

In addition, Amazon’s Prime Day promotion boosted retail sales in October.

Core retail sales, which exclude sales of automobiles, gasoline, building materials and food, rose 0.7% in October after increasing 0.6% in September.
