Asian stock markets closed in negative territory ahead of U.S. inflation data

China’s Shanghai Composite closed down 12.04 points, or -0.39%, at 3,036.13, as investors feared that the situation in China could worsen due to the Covid-19 epidemic and weak economic data, overshadowing China’s hopes of opening up the country. The worst performers were Kingsemi Co-13.19%, Circuit Febology Microelectronics E.-11.77%, and Shanghai Tofflon Science Tech-10.90%. The best performers were FS Dev Investment Holdings+20.06%, Goodwill E Health Info+20.02%, and Henan Oingshuiyuan Technology+20.01%.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 closed at 6,964.00, down 35.30 or -0.50%, and the All Ordinaries closed at 7,145.70, down 41.70 or -0.58%, in line with the U.S. stock markets on Wednesday. In addition, concerns about the crisis in the cryptocurrency market also affect the trading atmosphere in the stock market. The losers were Pendal-10.93%, Xero-10.85%, and Pointsbet Holdings-5.24%. The winners were Origin Energy+34.77%, Perpetual+14.82%, and News Corp B DRC+8.72%.

Tokyo’s Nikkei closed at 27,446.10, down 270.33, or -0.98%, as investors worried about the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections, where it was unclear which party would win a majority in the House of Representatives. Investors also turn their attention to the U.S. inflation data to be released today. The losers were Kobe Steel-7.54%, Kubota Corp.-7.05%, and Yokohama Rubber-6.51%. The winners were Fujikura+16.39%, Kaijma Corp.+6.91%, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries+5.27%.

The South Korean Composite (KOSPI) closed down 22.18, or -0.91%, at 2,402.23, following a decline in the U.S. stock markets on Wednesday (Nov. 9) as investors watched the results of the U.S. midterm elections and the slump in cryptocurrency prices. The losers were Dynamic Design-29.96%, Kumyang-20.32%, and IIdong Holdings-9.85%. The winners were Sewoo Global+29.92%, In The F+29.84%, and FF+29.80%.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong closed down 277.48 points, or -1.70%, at 16,081.04 points. The worst performers were Alibaba-4.55%, Baidu-2.43%, and Alibaba Health Information Tech-2.23%. The best performers were Budweiser+2.25%, China Resources Beer Holdings+1.32%, and China Shenhua Energy H+1.78%.

In Thailand, the SET closed at 1,619.23 points, down 3.22 points or -0.20%. The losers were World Flag-20%, Thaivivat Insurance-19.38%, and Indara Insurance-19.35%. The winners were Taokaenoi Food & Marketing (+29.86%), NFC (+23.89%), and Aqua Corporation (+8.82%).
