Number of initial jobless claims in the U.S. declines

The Labor Department reported that initial jobless claims fell by 1,000 to 217,000, while analysts had expected an increase of 220,000.

The number of claimants for unemployment benefits is above 215,000, the weekly average in the pre-COVID-19 pandemic period in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the number of Americans continuing to file for unemployment benefits increased by 50,000 to 1.49 million.
