Asian stock markets closed the week with a minus after U.S. markets fell yesterday

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 closed at 6,474.20, down 80.80 or -1.23%, and the All Ordinaries closed at 6,678.70, down 81.90 or -1.21%, in line with the sharp decline in Asian stock markets today after the U.S. stock markets plunged on Thursday (September 29). The losers were Carsales.Com-7.79%, Polynovo-6.81%, and Cochlear-6.63%. Resolute Mining+7.69%, Silver Lake Resources+7.27%, and Regis Resources+6.85% were the gainers.

South Korea’s composite index (KOSPI) closed at its lowest level in more than two years at 2,155.49, down 15.44, or -0.71%, on recession fears and as the won strengthened against the dollar. The losers were Jeju Bank-12.51%, K Car-8.97%, and Youlchon Chem-8.40%. Mirae ING+29.65%, Hwaseung RA Co+17.45%, and Hwaseung+11.28% were the gainers.

China’s Shanghai Composite closed down 16.81, or -0.55%, at 3,024.39 points. Caixin reported that manufacturing in China slowed in September. The market is also under pressure as investors sell their stocks ahead of the Chinese National Day long weekend. Shanghai Guo Electronic-13.58%, Xiamen Savings Environmental-11.72%, and Chengdu Qushui Science and-11.68% were the worst performers.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong closed up 56.96 points, or 0.33%, at 17,222.83 after several days of closing in the red and investors bought the dip. The best performers were Chi Ho Development (+57.14%), Shengli Oil Gas Pipe Holdings (+43.10%), and Global Strategic (+42.42). The worst performers were Future World Fin-35.05%, Tesson-37.78%, and Bc Technology-28.33%.

Tokyo’s Nikkei closed at a 3-month low of 25,937.21, down 484.84 points, led by technology stocks that fell. The Nasdaq plunged 2.84% overnight on investor fears that the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) will raise interest rates faster. Losers were Mazda Motor-8.17%, Mitsubishi Motors Corp.-7.99%, and Nissan Motor-6.31%. The gainers were Shinsei Bank+6.96%, Unitika+2.41%, and Oki Electric Industry+1.84%.

In Thailand, the SET closed at 1,590.75, down 1.62 or 0.10%. The losers were Indra Insurance-14.85%, Wave Entertainment-9.09%, and Thai Insurance-8.78%. The gainers were AQ Estate+50%, TWZ+14.29%, and SCI Electric+10.76%.
