New orders for durable goods in the U.S. down 0.2% in August

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, orders for U.S. durable goods such as aircraft, automobiles and heavy machinery that last at least three years fell 0.2% in August, following a 0.1% decline in July.

New orders for durable goods were impacted by a decline in shipping orders in August.

New orders for durable goods, i.e. capital goods excluding aircraft and weapons, rose 1.3% in August after increasing 0.7% in July.
