Indonesia’s trade surplus increased in August

Indonesia’s trade surplus rose to $5.76 billion in August, the National Statistics Office said today, from $4.23 billion in July, driven by strong exports.

Indonesian exports increased by 9.2% in August from the previous month to $27.9 billion. This was due to the expansion of exports in all sectors except mining. On a year-on-year basis, Indonesian exports increased by 30% in August.

Imports increased by 3.8% month-on-month in August to $22.15 billion, mainly due to imports of machinery and equipment. Year-on-year, imports increased by 33% in August.
