Bitcoin fell nearly 2% – Indonesia’s GoTo invests $8.4 million to buy crypto platform

The bitcoin price fell 1.90% today (August 31) to $19,810.0.

Bitcoin’s decline this morning came after the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 308.12 points on Tuesday (August 30), following 2 straight days of declines in U.S. stocks.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 308.12 points, or nearly 1%, to close at 31,790.87.
  • The S&P 500 fell 1.1% to close at 3,986.16 points.
  • The Nasdaq fell 1.1% to close at 11,883.14 points.

Indonesia’s largest tech startup GoTo Gojek Tokopedia has entered the cryptocurrency business with the acquisition of PT Kripto Maksima Koin, a cryptocurrency trading platform in Indonesia. The goal is to expand the company’s service.

In a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, GoTo has decided to acquire the entire 100% stake in PT Crypto Maxima Coin for Rp 12.484 billion ($8.38 million).

GoTo, which raised $1.1 billion in IPOs this year, said the deal is part of its goal to become a hub for financial management. GoTo believes blockchain technology will play a future role as mainstream in finance.

PT Crypto Maxima Coin is one of 25 crypto platforms licensed by the Commodity Futures Trading Agency (Bappebti).

Indonesians are currently heavily invested in cryptocurrencies. Data from Bappebti shows that the transaction volume in cryptocurrencies reached Rp 859.4 trillion in 2021, an increase of more than 1000% compared to 2020.
