Economic sentiment in the Eurozone fell more sharply than expected in August

According to the European Commission (EC), economic sentiment in the eurozone deteriorated more than expected in August, due to a decline in confidence in industry and services. Although consumer sentiment improved in the retail and construction sectors.

The Eurozone Economic Sentiment Index, a combined measure of business and consumer confidence, fell to 97.6 in August from 98.9 in July. This is the lowest level since February 2021.
