Italian manufacturers rush to cut production to save energy

The chairman of Italy’s Ministry for Environmental Change said Italy’s energy-intensive industries are adjusting their production to save energy after facing high electricity costs.

Italy imported almost 40% of its gas from Russia last year. Numerous agreements have been reached with other gas-producing countries to reduce dependence on Russia, as nearly half of Italy’s electricity is generated with gas.

These agreements helped Italy quickly replenish gas supplies, but were not enough to protect the industry from rising energy costs.
