Bitcoin fell almost 3% and moved around $22,000

The bitcoin price is down 2.81% today (August 5), hovering at $22,666.71.

Bitcoin slipped into negative territory this morning after the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 85 points on Thursday as investors fled into risk-adjusted stocks ahead of the release of U.S. jobs data on Friday (Aug. 5).

  • Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 85.68 points or 0.26% to close at 32,726.82 points.
  • The S&P 500 fell 0.08% to close at 4,151.94.
  • The Nasdaq rose 0.41% to close at 12,720.58 points.

Trading on Wall Street has come under pressure after U.S. initial jobless claims rose to their highest level in nearly eight months.

Initial jobless claims rose by 6,000 to 260,000 last week, the Labor Department reported.

The number of initial jobless claims exceeded 215,000, which is the weekly average for the pre-COVID-19 pandemic period in the U.S.

Investors are awaiting Friday’s nonfarm payrolls figures, which could further highlight the recession in the United States.
