Japan’s industry minister said Tuesday that the Japanese government has not yet been informed that a new Russian company plans to launch the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project.
“We will decide on our next steps once the terms of getting involved in the new company are made clear,” Industry Minister Koichi Hagiuda said.
At the end of June, Russian President Vladimir Putin had taken control of the Sakhalin-2 gas and oil project by decree through a new company. Ready to threaten to cut off important gas supplies to Japan.
