The director of the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) announced that the index of industrial production (MPI) in May 2022 was 98.05, a decrease of 2.11% compared to the same period last year. In the first five months of this year, industrial production grew by an average of 0.57%.
The capacity utilization rate (CapU) was 62.42% in May, up from 58.54% in April 2022. For the first five months of the year, the average capacity utilization rate is 64.11%.
Among the most important factors affecting production in May 2022 is the lockdown of cities in China. This has led to supply bottlenecks, in particular a shortage of semiconductors used in the manufacture of automobiles and electronic products.
Inflation continues to affect companies in the industrial sector through an increase in production costs.
The producer price index (PPI) for industrial products increased by 11.8% in May 2022 compared to 11.4% in April. Moreover, the depreciation of the baht also increases the price competitiveness of the export sector.
