These Economic Data Will Be Important This Week

Asia

On Monday, Australia releases SSG Global’s final manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for April, while South Korea releases its final manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for April. Japan releases its April consumer confidence index.

On Tuesday, South Korea releases its inflation rate for the month of April and the Reserve Bank of Australia meets on monetary policy and announces an interest rate decision.

On Wednesday, South Korea reports its foreign exchange reserves for April.

On Thursday, the purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for the service sector for April will be published by Caixin in China.

On Friday, Japan releases the consumer price index (CPI) for April. This is followed by a monetary policy statement from the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Europe

On Monday, Germany will publish retail sales for the month of March and the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector in April. Following this, the UK will publish the Nationwide house price index for April and France will publish the final purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing in April. The EU also publishes its final manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for April.

On Tuesday, Germany publishes the unemployment rate for April and the UK the final manufacturing purchasing managers’ index for April. The EU publishes the unemployment rate for March.

On Wednesday, Germany publishes its imports, exports and trade balance for March, as well as the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in the final services sector for April. France reports its final purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for the services sector in April. And the EU publishes the purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for the services sector for April together with the March retail sales report.

On Thursday, factory orders for March will be published in Germany, and the final Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the service sector in April in the UK. Afterward, the Bank of England (BoE) meets to discuss monetary policy and publish its interest rate decision.

On Friday, the index of German industrial production for March will be published.

The U.S.

On Monday, the U.S. will see the release of the final April manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) from SSDP Global, the April manufacturing index from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), and March construction spending.

On Tuesday, U.S. job openings for March, the job turnover rate (JOLTS), and factory orders for March will be released.

On Wednesday, the U.S. will release April private-sector payrolls, imports, exports, and trade balance for the month of March, as well as the final April Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the service sector from the U.S. Institute for Supply Management (ISM). The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will report its weekly U.S. crude oil inventories and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will announce its interest rate decisions.

On Thursday, the U.S. reports weekly initial jobless claims.

On Friday, the number of non-farm payrolls for April will be announced.
