Eurozone Investor Confidence Index Falls to Lowest Level in Nearly Two Years

German research institute Sentix announced that its eurozone investor confidence index fell to its lowest level in almost two years in April. This suggests that the eurozone economy could turn into a recession in the second half of this year.

The investor confidence index fell to -18.0 in April from -7.0 in March, the lowest level since July 2020, while analysts had expected a reading of -9.2.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the sanctions imposed by Western countries are a factor putting pressure on the eurozone economy.

In general, the investor confidence index has declined globally, but the eurozone is among the regions with the sharpest declines.
