The latest crypto market moves: Bitcoin donations to Ukrainian military skyrocket after Russia attacks
Bitcoin donations to Ukrainian army surge after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine yesterday (Feb. 24)
Elliptic, a blockchain analytics company, showed within 12 hours that nearly $400,000 in Bitcoin had been donated to Come Back Alive, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization supporting the armed forces.
“Crypto is increasingly being used to fund wars which has been approved by the government implicitly,”Elliptic Chief Scientist Tom Robinson said
This new round of donations has been seen in recent weeks. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in Bitcoins have been donated to NGOs and volunteer groups working against the Russian invasion.
Ukraine has chosen to use cryptocurrencies for a range of activities, including providing military equipment, medical supplies, and drones to the Ukrainian military. It will also fund the development of facial recognition applications to identify Russian mercenaries or spies who might infiltrate the country.
